Hippo Hill Camp-Katwe
Tented camp · Katwe, in the park buffer zone · Lake Kitandara Tours & Travel Ltd, with the lodge arm trading as Adventure Camps
A drawing, because nobody has sent us a photograph of Hippo Hill Camp-Katwe yet. Send five and this page changes the same week.
Hippo Hill stands at Katwe in the park's buffer zone, outside the boundary in the owner's own wording, above the crater pan where salt is still cut by hand. Mweya and the channel cruise are close, which is the practical reason to sleep on this side. The camp has had no working website since about 2018, so contact runs through Lake Kitandara in Kampala.

What the park charges on top
The rate above buys you a bed. Queen Elizabeth National Park charges its own entry fee for every day you are inside. Here is what that adds up to.
- Park entryCharged per 24 hours rather than per night.
- $40per person, per day
- VehicleA Ugandan-registered 4x4, the usual hire car, at UGX 30,000; a foreign-registered 4x4 pays $150.
- $8per vehicle, per day
Three nights means three days inside, so two adults sharing one vehicle pay $264 in park fees before anyone pays for a bed.
Entry is sold in 24-hour blocks that begin when you pass the gate, so a trip that starts at midday and ends at 16:00 two days later is charged as three days, not two.
The full fee schedule for Queen Elizabeth National ParkRates at Hippo Hill Camp-Katwe
On request. There is no working owner site, so no current rate exists. The last owner rate dates from 2008 and read $200 for a double or twin and $110 for a single, per tent on full board with juice, tea and coffee, park fees excluded. That is far too old to publish and is recorded here only as history. The domain kitandarasafariholidays.com was hijacked with spam in 2021 and re-registered in December 2025, so it is not the camp's and is not linked here.
What the rate covers is not confirmed. We do not know yet whether meals, drinks and activities are included, so read this as the bed only.
Every figure on this page is in US dollars.
Indicative 2026 rates, read in September 2026 from each property's own website, rate card or factsheet. Twenty-three of the forty-two publish a rack rate of their own. The other nineteen say on request, and no agent or tour operator figure has been used to fill a gap. Watch the basis, because it decides whether two numbers can be compared at all: some quote per person per night sharing, others per room, per tent or per cottage, and meals sit inside some rates and outside others. Park entry is extra almost everywhere at $40 per foreign non-resident adult per 24 hours, plus the vehicle, and the Kazinga Channel cruise is $30 on top.
Questions about Hippo Hill Camp-Katwe
How much does Hippo Hill Camp-Katwe cost?
No current rate is published. The last figure the owner published dates from 2008, at $200 for a double or twin and $110 for a single on full board with juice, tea and coffee, park fees excluded. That is too old to treat as a real price, so contact Lake Kitandara in Kampala for a current quote before you book.
Does Hippo Hill Camp-Katwe have a website?
Not since about 2018. There is no working site to check rates or rooms against, and the domain kitandarasafariholidays.com was hijacked with spam in 2021 and re-registered in December 2025, so it is not the camp's and should not be trusted. Book through Lake Kitandara Tours & Travel in Kampala, by email at kitanda@infocom.co.ug.
Is Hippo Hill Camp-Katwe good for families?
We found no child policy or minimum age published anywhere for this camp, so this cannot be answered from an owner source. Ask Lake Kitandara directly about family options when you enquire, since the only accommodation on record is ten en-suite tents with no stated family configuration.
Why is Hippo Hill Camp-Katwe also called Kitandara Hippo Hill Lodge?
That name circulates widely online, but it is not one the owner uses. The camp trades as Hippo Hill Camp-Katwe, run by Lake Kitandara Tours & Travel under the Adventure Camps arm. If you see Kitandara Hippo Hill Lodge quoted elsewhere, treat it as the same camp under a name confusion rather than a different property.
